A Lifelong Passion for Rescue: Kassi Clifford’s Journey Saving Animals in Need

Introduction:
For Kassi Clifford, of Louisville, Ky, rescuing animals isn’t just a hobby—it’s a calling. From childhood instincts to adult advocacy, her dedication to helping vulnerable creatures has saved countless lives. In this heartfelt interview, Kassi shares her inspiring journey, the challenges of rescue work, and how others can make a difference.

What Inspired You to Start Helping Animals?

Kassi’s compassion for animals began early. "I’ve always had a natural instinct to help," she recalls. "My mom used to tell me, ‘You can’t save every animal,’ but she was the one who taught me by example." Her mother would often take in the smallest, weakest pets—hamsters, strays—and nurse them back to health. "The pet store even called her when they had animals they feared wouldn’t survive. She’d bottle-feed them, keep them warm, and give them a fighting chance."

That nurturing spirit stuck with Kassi, shaping her into the rescuer she is today.

A Rescue Story That Stands Out

With countless animals saved over the years, Kassi has many unforgettable moments. One of her most recent—and most heartbreaking—cases is Wobbles, a kitten found barely alive in a barn.

"We thought he was dead," Kassi says. "He was flea-ridden, dehydrated, and couldn’t use his back legs." The kitten had been hit by a car and left to suffer. Thanks to Kassi’s quick action, Wobbles received emergency vet care, physical therapy, and a second chance. "He wobbles when he walks now, but he’s learning to adapt. We’re fighting for him just like he fought to survive."

Another touching story is Little Bits, a tiny kitten with a crushed leg. After amputation, he thrived in foster care and found a loving forever home. "Seeing animals like him recover and be loved—that’s why I do this."

The Biggest Challenges in Rescue Work

Finding Fosters – "We’re all full. Rescues can’t save more animals without people willing to foster, even temporarily."

Funding Vet Care – Emergency treatments, surgeries, and ongoing care add up quickly. Kassi often relies on donations and partnerships with organizations like Shamrock Foundation.

"When people step up—whether fostering, donating, or sharing posts—it saves lives."

How Rescue Work Has Changed Her—And How Others Can Help

For Kassi, rescue is deeply personal. "Getting messages from adopters years later, saying how much their pet means to them—that’s everything."

She urges others to take action:

Spay/neuter pets – "Overpopulation is the root of so much suffering. Louisville has low-cost programs like Alley Cat Advocates, Spay Anyway, and SNIP Clinic."

Foster or volunteer – Even a day trip with a shelter dog (through LMAS’s Field Trip Program) makes a difference.

Donate or share resources – Support local rescues like Shamrock Foundation or pet food pantries like No Kill Louisville.

Final Thoughts:
Kassi’s story is a powerful reminder that one person’s compassion can change lives. Whether through fostering, donating, or simply spreading awareness, everyone can be part of the solution.

"These animals didn’t choose their circumstances," she says. "But we can choose to help."
